Kevin Tzanetis is a jazz trumpeter, composer, and bandleader whose artistry blends a deep respect for the jazz tradition with a forward-looking creative vision. Known for his dynamic sound, versatility, and expressive approach to the trumpet, Kevin is establishing his own voice within a new generation of jazz artists.

A graduate of the Peabody Institute of The Johns Hopkins University, Kevin earned his Bachelor of Music in Jazz Performance in 2024 and Master of Music in Jazz Performance in 2026. During his six years at Peabody, he studied under internationally acclaimed trumpeter and educator Sean Jones, refining his approach to performance, improvisation, composition, and artistic leadership.

Kevin’s musical foundation began under the mentorship of Jim Buchta, whom he considers his musical father. During his high school years, he also studied with Grammy Award-winning trumpeter Nabaté Isles, further developing his connection to jazz and laying the foundation for his professional career.

As a performer, Kevin has shared the stage and collaborated with an array of distinguished musicians, including Sean Jones, Christian McBride, Warren Wolf, Richard Johnson, Tim Green, Nasar Abadey, Javier Nero, and many others. He also served as Lead Trumpet of the Peabody Jazz Ensemble for five years, developing a reputation as both a powerful ensemble player and expressive soloist.

Kevin received an Honorable Mention at the Jack Rudin Jazz Championship, where Wynton Marsalis recognized him as one of the competition’s standout trumpet performers. His experiences as a performer, composer, bandleader, and collaborator continue to shape an artistic identity grounded in the language of jazz while reaching toward new possibilities.

For Kevin, jazz is more than music—it is “the oxygen I breathe.” Drawing inspiration from spirituality, nature, love, and the human experience, he seeks to create music that connects deeply with audiences and reflects something larger than himself.

Through his performances, compositions, and evolving body of work, Kevin Tzanetis continues to pursue a singular artistic vision: honoring where jazz has been while contributing his own voice to where the music can go next.
