Kevin Tzanetis is a highly accomplished jazz trumpet player, celebrated for his extraordinary talent and innovative contributions to the genre. Now pursuing his master's degree at the Peabody Institute of The Johns Hopkins University, Kevin has built a reputation not only for his performance but also for his deep dedication to pushing the boundaries of jazz music. A self-professed melomaniac, his passion for music extends beyond the trumpet, allowing him to bring a versatile artistry to any musical setting.
Kevin’s musical journey began with the mentorship of Jim Buchta, who he regards as his musical father. Under Jim's guidance in the Fairfield Public School System, Kevin developed a solid musical foundation. His path into jazz was further shaped by studying with Geoffrey Brookes, whose mentorship ignited Kevin’s passion for the genre. At Fairfield Warde High School, Kevin continued to grow under the guidance of Scott Marsland and, more significantly, Nabatè Isles, whose influence helped shape Kevin’s trajectory toward a professional career in jazz.
After high school, Kevin’s studies led him to the prestigious Peabody Institute, where he refined his craft under the tutelage of the legendary Sean Jones. These formative years, marked by mentorship from respected figures like Jim Buchta, Geoffrey Brookes, Nabatè Isles, and Sean Jones, provided Kevin with a solid foundation in jazz theory and performance, laying the groundwork for his future successes.
Throughout his career, Kevin has received numerous accolades, including an honorable mention at the Jack Rudin Jazz Championship, where he was recognized by Wynton Marsalis as one of the top trumpet players. His technical brilliance and expressive playing have earned him the opportunity to perform and work with jazz luminaries such as the Christian McBride, Sean Jones, Warren Wolf, Richard Johnson, Tim Green, Nasar Abadey, Javier Nero, Tedd, Baker, David DeJesus, Scott Marsland, Geoffrey Brookes, Jim Buchta, Chris Hisey, Rex Cadwallader, Jeff Desrosier, and Brian Borelli. and many others. Each collaboration has further honed his artistry and expanded his musical range.
For the past three years, Kevin has served as the lead trumpet of the Peabody Jazz Ensemble, where his leadership and artistic vision have been pivotal. With aspirations to leave a lasting legacy in the jazz world, Kevin is committed to advancing the art form and inspiring future generations of musicians. His belief that jazz is "the oxygen I breathe" drives his quest for excellence and artistic growth. Outside of music, he finds inspiration in nature, using moments of reflection in the natural world to fuel his creativity and deepen his musical expression.
